Live baccarat
Fixed drawing rules, three main bets and no decisions after the deal. Where the edge sits, and what multiplier variants charge for their upside.
Live baccarat deals two hands, Player and Banker, from a physical shoe according to fixed drawing rules, so no decisions are made after the bet is placed. In an eight-deck game the house edge is 1.06% on Banker, 1.24% on Player and 14.36% on a Tie paid at 8 to 1. Multiplier variants add a fee to every bet and pay enhanced amounts on multiplied cards.

A game with no decisions
Once a bet is placed, live baccarat plays itself. The dealer deals two hands from the shoe, fixed rules decide whether either draws a third card, and the hand closest to nine wins. The player's only choices are which bet to back and how much to stake.
Studios operating under British standards are expected to use casino-quality equipment and trained croupiers, to record dealer activity on video, and to keep game logs that can be analysed for irregular patterns1. Because there are no player decisions, procedure and equipment are the whole of the integrity question.
Where the edge sits
The three main bets are not equivalent. In an eight-deck game the house edge is 1.06% on Banker, 1.24% on Player, and 14.36% on the Tie at its usual 8 to 1 payout2. The Banker figure already accounts for the commission normally deducted from winning Banker bets, which exists because the drawing rules favour that hand slightly.
The gap between 1.06% and 14.36% is the largest single fact about the game. Choosing a bet is choosing a price, and the Tie costs more than ten times as much as the alternative in theory.
What multiplier variants charge
Lightning-style tables add random card multipliers and pay for them with a fee on every bet. Evolution's Lightning Baccarat adds a 20% Lightning Fee to each player's total bet, and applies a random payout multiplier of 2x, 3x, 4x, 5x or 8x to each lightning card3.
That fee is not optional within the game: it applies to the whole stake, including bets that never benefit from a multiplier. As with multiplier roulette, the enhanced payouts are financed from within the bet, so the entire paytable of the variant is a different product from a standard table and should be read as one.
Roads, shoes and patterns
Live baccarat interfaces show road maps: bead plate, big road, and derived roads that summarise previous results. They are a longstanding part of the game's presentation and they record what the shoe has already produced.
They do not forecast. Each hand is dealt from the remaining cards under fixed rules, and British standards prohibit adaptive games that change the probability of outcomes during play4. Speed formats shorten the round rather than changing any of this, and a shorter round means more hands, and more turnover, per hour.
How our database records it
We list a game here when its category is live casino and its mechanics include baccarat, which covers standard tables, speed formats, squeeze tables and multiplier variants. House edge figures are published only against the deck count and paytable they were calculated for.
FAQ
About live baccarat
Which baccarat bet has the lowest house edge?
Banker, at 1.06% in an eight-deck game, against 1.24% on Player and 14.36% on a Tie paid at 8 to 1. The Banker figure already includes the commission usually taken from winning Banker bets. Tables that change the commission or the Tie payout have different figures, so the paytable rather than the variant name decides the number.
What does the Lightning Fee pay for?
The multipliers. Evolution adds a 20% Lightning Fee to each player's total bet in Lightning Baccarat and applies random multipliers of 2x, 3x, 4x, 5x or 8x to lightning cards. The fee applies to the whole stake whether or not a multiplier lands on your hand, so the variant's economics differ from a standard table's throughout.
Do the road maps predict the next hand?
No. They record what the shoe has already dealt. The drawing rules are fixed and the result of the next hand does not depend on the pattern of the last ones, and adaptive games that alter probabilities during play are not permitted under British technical standards. The roads are presentation, not information about future hands.
Is speed baccarat a different game?
The rules are the same; the clock is not. A shorter round means more hands per hour, and since the theoretical cost of play applies to everything staked, the same edge is met more quickly. If a table's pace makes a session hard to track, a standard-speed table deals the identical game with more time between hands.
